Quercetin is a potent antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory activity, protecting cellular structures and blood vessels from the damaging effects of free radicals. It improves blood vessel strength. Quercetin inhibits the activity of catechol-O-methyltransferase that breaks down the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. This effect may lead to elevated levels of norepinephrine and an increase in energy expenditure and fat oxidation.

It also means quercetin acts as an antihistamine leading to relief of allergies and asthma. As an antioxidant, it reduces LDL cholesterol and offers protection from heart disease. Quercetin blocks an enzyme that leads to accumulation of sorbitol, which has been linked to nerve, eye, and kidney damage in diabetics.

Quercetin is pentahydroxyflavone achieved from rutin which is hydrolyzed by dilute sulphuric acid.

This product has functions of eliminating phlegm, relieving cough and a certain degree of relieving asthma. Meanwhile, it can reduce blood pressure, strengthen capillaries, decrease capillary fragility, reduce blood lipid, dilate coronary artery, increase blood flow of coronary artery etc.

It is used for the treatment of chronic bronchitis, and the adjuvant therapy of coronary heart disease and hypertension.

It has good expectorant, cough effect, and some asthma, for the treatment of chronic bronchitis.

It can lower blood pressure, fragility, blood fat, expanse coronary artery, and increase capillary resistance coronary blood

flow, and other effects on the coronary heart disease and hypertension role of adjuvant therapy.

It can beanti-tumor and anti-platelet aggregation.

It can inhibit platelet aggregatireduce capillaryon and 5 - hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) release

One of the many health benefits of quercetin is that it acts as a potent antioxidant combating the destructive "free radical" molecules that play a part in many diseases.

Quercetin also has healthful anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy effects. It inhibits the production and release of histamine and other allergic/inflammatory mediators, making it of value for allergies, particularly allergies to pollen. It may also be helpful for hayfever, hives, sinusitis, asthma, and inflammation disorders.

Quercetin, along with other flavonoids, can also improve the health of capillaries. In addition, quercetin, along with other flavonoids, can improve the health of connective tissues. Therefore, the many health benefits of quercetin include alleviating bruising, edema, varicose veins, and fragile capillaries.

In test tube and animal studies quercetin has shown to have anti-cancer effects. In fact, flavonoids from fruits and

vegetables have long been thought to be very important substances to possibly help prevent cancer.

One study suggests that quercetin is helpful for prostate health. More specifically, in a double-blind study quercetin was effective in non-bacterial chronic prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland).

Test tube, animal, and some population-based studies suggest that quercetin, resveratrol, and catechins -- all flavonoids -- reduce the risk of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a narrowing of the arteries from a buildup of fatty deposits called plaque that can lead to heart attack or stroke. However, studies in people are needed to confirm these findings.

Quercetin has also been shown to be a strong inhibitor of human lens aldose reductase - an enzyme that plays a part in the formation of diabetic cataract, neuropathy, and retinopathy. Lastly, quercetin enhances the action of vitamin C, another antioxidant.
